Lecture Series: Mr. Lincoln, The Life of Abraham Lincoln

2:00 p.m.on the Sundays listed below at the Patterson Homestead, 1815 Brown Street, Dayton, Ohio. FREE!
View a lecture by Professor Allen Guelzo, of Gettysburg College from his DVD series, and participate in a discussion lead by one of our Lincoln friends. The series will follow Lincoln's life chronologically but with a focus on various topics. A study guide may be ordered for $5.00 which emcompasses the entire 12 lectures. All of this is possible through the Teaching Company, an oustanding educational organization which brings renown professors from a variety of universities to us through audio or DVD presentations on a wide range of topics.

If you are interested in paticipating as a discussion leader please contact Maribeth Graham or at 434-7414. Dates for the two unscheduled lectures: The President's Sword and The Dream of Lincoln will be announced when determined. The series is appropriate for high school students and older.

Stillwater Civil War Roundtable

The Stillwater Civil War Roundtable meets monthly...the Third Tuesday...at the Troy Hayner Cultural Center on Main Street in Troy at 7:00.  Worth the brief trip up I75 to meet new history buffs, enjoy raffle of books and baked goods, and hear an excellent program. (The building itself is phenomenal as well!)  Topics are centered on aspects of the Civil War .  Membership of $20 is encouraged but guests are wlecome without charge.

Second Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social

August 21 on the Great Lawn of Patterson Homestead. Open to the public! Free ice cream, games of the 1860's, prizes, and surprises!! Bring your family to this fun, friendly event. Share this event with friends on Facebook or download and print a flier.

Trips and Tours

See a video of the trip to Wilmington, Ohio. Lincoln historian and Lincoln collector, Gary Kersey, takes the Lincoln Society of Dayton Ohio on a detailed tour of his Lincoln collection.
Many of his prized Lincoln items are attributed to the late famed Lincoln collector and artist Lloyd Ostendorf who resided in Oakwood a suburb of Dayton Ohio. In 1959, Lloyd wrote an illustrated booklet of "A Centennial Account of Abraham Lincoln's Visit to Dayton Ohio in 1859".

Tentive Trips:

  • Louisville, KY (to see the Hamilton statue, the Library and Farmington)
  • Springfield, IL and New Salem (overnight trip to several attractions, including Lincoln's childhood home)
