Conversation Clusters

Oct 2009 - May 2010 second Monday of each month (except December)
A Discussion Series, cohosted by Dayton History, exploring various aspects of Lincoln

  • 1-2:30 pm at the MCL Cafeteria, David and Far Hills Ave.
  • 7-8:30 pm at the Patterson Homestead, Brown Street

The series, published by the Library of America, is available without charge from the Lincoln Society of Dayton but registration is a must. To RSVP call Maribeth Graham 434-7414 or Email maeg434@aol.com or lincolnsocietyofdayton@gmail.com.
Topics include Lincoln as a Self-Made Man, As Literary Genius, As American Redeemer, Lincoln: Legacy of the Emancipator, Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, Lincoln and his Critics and the Inspired Wisdom of A. Lincoln. Discussion Leaders include Karen Campbell, Gary Kersey, Jim Crabtree and Anthony Whitmore. Age appropriate for High School students through Adults.

The Society will be selling reprints of the book, Mr. Lincoln Came to Dayton, written 50 years ago by Lloyd Ostendorf, at many of these events for just $12.00.

You may also visit, if you choose, additional venues that are within walking distance of the State Museum – the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and American Art or the Indiana Historical Society Library and Exhibits (admissions not included in price)

The trip leaves from Englewood Meijers, Rt. 48 and I-70, promptly at 8:30 a.m., returning about 8:00 p.m. No meals are included but you are welcome to bring food for the bus. Lunch is available at the museum, and we will stop at a Cracker Barrel on the return trip

The cost is $60.00 per person for members of the Lincoln Society, $75.00 for non-members. This includes round-trip transportation, entrance fee to Indiana State Museum and associated tips. Please make checks payable to Dayton History, noting Lincoln Society of Dayton and mail them to the Society at P. O. Box 658, Dayton, 45409. The deadline is March 26 to reserve your seat on the bus!
